If you or someone close to you is turning forty, you’ve got to plan a huge celebration to commemorate the occasion. No matter what popular media has brainwashed you into thinking, turning forty is something to be proud of, not dreaded. Forty is truly the perfect age. You still have your youth, but you’re no longer as foolish as you were in your twenties and early thirties. Now that we’ve got that squared away, it’s time to come up an amazing way to celebrate! I’ve compiled a list of tips and suggestions that are sure to make for a memorable 40th birthday party.
1. If you’re planning this celebration for someone other than yourself, make sure to take their personal wishes into consideration. If you think they are sensitive about turning forty, you might want to ease up on the over the hill jokes. But if you think they’ll have a sense of humor about, feel free to go all out.
2. This birthday is a big deal and it shouldn’t be treated just like any other party. Consider giving the party a theme. You can really have fun with it. Anything from and Alice in Wonderland to a murder mystery is sure to spice up the party. It will also ease the stress of planning because you’ll be able to organize your thoughts in one direction.
3. Find the perfect location. If your budget permits, choose a unique location for the event. Just be considerate of the guests you invite. Even though it would be fun to celebrate in the Caribbean, most guests probably won’t be able to make it to the party. Make sure the venue you choose is within driving distance and give all the guests plenty of advance notice.
4. Go all out with decorations. Make sure to stock up on some unique and fun designs. If you’re running short on ideas, consider getting enlarged baby pictures of the birthday man or woman. You can also hang up fun facts or album covers from the year that they were born. If you’ve chosen a specific theme for the party, try to incorporate it into the decorations as much as possible.
5. Plan games for the event. You can again stick with a theme, if you chosen one. Otherwise, consider adding some fun childhood games into the mix. Maybe an adult version of pin the tail on the donkey or you could put together a trivia game on the birthday man or woman’s life.
6. Stock up on some of their favorite foods and drinks for the event. Also make sure to have plenty of finger foods for guests to nibble on. Assuming the birthday man or woman drinks alcohol, make sure to have plenty of booze to choose from. It’s a big celebration after all! If you are unsure of how much to purchase, a good rule of thumb is to figure one drink per person per hour.
Don’t stress too much about the planning details. Give yourself plenty of time to get everything prepared and the night is sure to be a blast. Forty is the new twenty, so you’ve got to make sure the night is special.
